Addiction

Today I have been editing the sequel to Tea at Sam's and have reached a chapter that involves a young drug addict. I felt quite emotional, as I have had some experience helping addicts and hope that the story rings true.

When I lived in Hong Kong in the 70's I had the privilege of knowing Jackie Pullinger, who worked and is still working with heroin addicts with great success. Addiction is a deadly, insidious life wrecker but there is hope.

I read in the paper today that Amy Winehouse's family have started a charity to help young addicts and wish them every success.
